I regret to have to inform you that
98 cases of bubonic plague have been reported between January 1st.and the 26th.instant, of which by far the greater number have occurred during the last few weeks. Up to the corresponding date last year there were 108 cases recorded. The Sanitary Board have taken and are taking active measures to prevent the spread of the disease, and I trust that the visitation will not be a
severe one. I communicated this serious condition to
you this day by telegraph as follows:-
